Character & Scenery Design of Memories

I think every one of us must have some little secret when we were still a child,

and it was the main idea I want to share with the audience.

Therefore, in this project, I designed three characters.

First, a boy. The little boy plays the main character who owns a little secret.

And he represents people’s “childhood”.

Then, a father, who has the same secret with his son when he was young.

And being the contrast to his son, the father shows that even a grown-up has a buried secret in mind.

The last character is a giant robot. Inspired by the Japanese animation-  My Neighbor Totoro ,

In this story, I selected the robot to be a fictional character, only would the boy recognized him.

And I decided the ruins of the factory to be the site of the whole story,

since it provided the sense of mystery and which gave robot an appropriate reason coming on the stage.

Additionally, to create a fairy- tale like scenery, I designed the boy’s clothing with oldy style.

I made two sceneries in this animation.

One was the little boy’s home, the other was the ruins of the factory which was on the vast prairie.

In order to make the comparison between these two spots,

I arranged the boy’s home to be in a mess, it showed the boy was long for an adventure;

and the factory which located on the vast prairie stably can give audience a sense of peace and free.

The model of the factory was designed after the robot’s appearance.
